One of the biggest trends in design right now is the idea of mixing and matching different styles and eras in an effort to create a room or feeling that is uniquely that of the individual who owns the home. Adding silk-like eco-bedding to an individual’s already-organic linens vocabulary is one of the easiest ways to add a touch of eco-friendliness to a home.
Decorative pillows, in particular, have been given a couture flair. One of the biggest trends right now is the idea of incorporating multi-cultural décor into a home.
Current popular sources of inspiration include China, Russia, Latin America, Morocco, and India. These trends can all stand alone or can be mixed to create something of an around-the-world feel to a home. (more…)
All About Pillows
Executive summary about décor pillows by Terry Edwards

decor pillows
There are different kinds of pillows available, but the one people would most commonly know is the bed pillow. Bed pillows are used to support the head and neck when sleeping or lying in bed.
Body pillows are far longer-as much as the height of an adult. Body pillows are popular with pregnant women.
Throw pillows, also known as throw cushions are square pillows that may be used to support the body on a sofa. Bolster pillows are round and longer than a normal pillow but not as long as a body pillow, however they are used in a similar manner.
Boyfriend pillows are available only in Japan, and are shaped like a pair of arms. Dust mites live in pillows, feeding on the skin cells that gather and thus 10% of the weight of a two year old pillow may be dust mites, dust mite feces and dead mites.
Covering your pillows in anti-allergen cases keeps them clean and prevents the entry of dust mites.
How to Make a Pillow
Executive summary about pillows by Kerri Stalton
The first step to making a pillow is to select your fabric and trims. You will also need to select a filling for your pillow, decide what shape you want your pillow to be, and whether you want your pillow to have a removable cover.
As you select your fabric, keep in mind that many décor pillows are made using at least two contrasting fabrics. Knit fabrics and slippery materials are hard to work with.
Thin cotton fabrics do not usually make a spectacular pillow unless you are using a quilt block design.
The easiest pillow to sew is probably a simple square pillow without any cording. To make your pillow, cut two squares of fabric that are one half inch bigger than your finished pillow measurement on each side. Sew around three sides of the fabric squares, using a half inch seam allowance. Use that space to turn your pillow right side out.
Finally, you are ready to finish your pillow.
